In 2003, a special event was held to raise money for a downtown elementary school in Tampa, Florida. The movie/Oscar themed event was held in March and called “A Red Carpet Affair”. Proceeds from the event were donated to the elementary school to pay for classroom supplies. In the absence of such proceeds, the teachers themselves would have paid for the supplies out of their own paychecks. A website was created to publicize the event, which was well attended and raised some much needed funds for the school. About three weeks later, following the Academy Awards, the website received thousands of hits from people all over the world looking for information on the awards ceremony and the actors/actresses. Thus the idea of the The Red Carpet as an ongoing website was born and has evolved into a blog and in the future, a social networking site for those interested in entertainment. \r\n\r\nThe original idea behind “A Red Carpet Affair” is still relevant today.
